July Recap
Hello there. The latter half of July was both uneventful and wildly stressful at the same time.
We haven’t gone on any grand adventures as of late, just a few local hikes. Work has been kicking both our butts.
At Ian’s job, everything is a crisis. He’s responsible for training all the new people coming in, doesn’t have time to get his own work done, and then has to deal with all of the angry people who think everything is a crisis and are upset that his work isn’t getting done. You just can’t please everyone.
I’ve been hiring like crazy, prepping for an audit, and mitigating petty personnel drama. I’m a certified CPR instructor now so that I can train all of the staff rather than outsourcing it, as everyone on payroll needs to be certified since we work in healthcare.
I like to think that we have a healthy enough work/life balance that work stresses shouldn’t flow into other areas of life, but when you’re working more, exhausted, and stressed, it’s hard not to spend a wild Saturday night watching reruns and going to bed at 8:30. Things are getting better, but it’s been a tough couple of weeks.
Things haven’t been all bad, though. We’ve been reading a lot, wedding planning, and attempting to relax.
We ran the Draper annual 5k race, and Ian won a medal! He got second place in his age group (men ages 25-30). I almost got a medal - apparently I missed third place in my age group by 7 seconds. Maybe next year.
Despite a record-hot July, we managed to get a few hikes in. Our motto is if you aren’t at the trailhead by 8:00 AM then you’re late. Around here, that’s definitely true. Trails get busy very quickly.
It’s peak wild flower season, and I don’t have much else to report, so please enjoy a photo blast of our hikes to a variety of high alpine lakes.
Love and miss you all!
