Ski Season Recap
Happy Easter to all who celebrate! We celebrated by going for a long run and getting pizza. You haven’t missed much here. Besides working, all we’ve been doing is skiing. It’s been so busy, but incredible. This is your PSA that this blog will mostly be photos because I doubt anyone wants to hear about one of Ian’s socks that’s been missing for weeks or about how bad my allergies are.
Even our anniversary and Ian’s birthday earlier this month were uneventful. We got some supplies for growing vegetables on our rooftop deck and got Indian food with a 30% off coupon I scored for our favorite place about a mile away from our house. I read a book about the guy who created Veggie Tales, which was actually pretty interesting. Ian’s ankle’s been bothering him, and he’s transferring departments at work. He also got new socks. So yeah, pretty boring outside of all the skiing.
You may or may not recall that last year was my first year skiing. Since then, Ian has 100% switched over from snowboarding to skiing, and I have become the slowest skier on the black diamond off the beaten path trails. We’ve come a loooong way. Ian’s naturally good at all athletic stuff, so no surprise there, but still - skiing is not the same as snowboarding, and he’s crushing it. I would like to toot my own horn for learning how to ski at 28 and then going from 0 to being able to ski the harder trails at some of the coolest places to ski. I am not fast or graceful, but I do have fun and I do it safely.
Last year we had a pass for just one resort, Sundance, which was on the smaller side and great for learning. People think Sundance is way fancier than it actually is because of the whole Robert Redford thing, but it’s not actually as bougie as it tries to make itself out to be.
This year, we got a pass that lets us go to a bunch of different resorts for a certain number of days (usually 7). We got this type of pass intentionally so that we could try out several different places to see which one(s) we liked the best. You get access to almost all of the local resorts this way, plus several that are only a few hours away, all over the country, and internationally. We would never even get remotely close to visiting all of the options available, but it was fun to explore all of the local options and take a few weekend trips. In this process we also identified the one resort that takes the cake - Alta. We’ve only scratched the surface of all of the terrain there, but it’s amazing. Stunning scenery, great runs, skiers only (no snowboarders allowed - they tend to be more wild and reckless and don’t wear helmets). An added bonus is that our other couple friends that ski here also ski at Alta, so next year is going to be great to all go together more often.
Alta is a magical place, but here’s a recap of some of the other cool places we’ve skied this season.
Sun Valley, Idaho
Idaho is a little underrated. Sun Valley is beautiful, and is probably the bougiest resort we’ve been to. The bathrooms have floor to ceiling doors on the stalls, fancy marble tile, couches, and a bathroom attendant. They’re fancy. The food is amazing too. Ski resort food is notorious for being ungodly overpriced, so if I’m going to pay a stupid amount of money for lunch I might as well get a cedar plank salmon sandwich and not shi**y chicken tenders and fries. They also had an espresso bar and amazing salads. The terrain was also super fun. Steeper that what we were used to, but a good challenge. The best part - no lift lines! 10/10 would ski again.
Brian Head
Brian Head is a favorite of ours. It’s in Southern Utah, so picture snow covered red rocks. The runs here are fun, and they have a lot of off piste skiing in the trees vs the groomed main trails. We skied here for two days. The first day was white out snow conditions that got cut short because of lightning even though we almost quit the day anyway because you couldn’t see what was right in front of you. It was downright apocalyptic. These photos do not do it justice because you can’t ski and not see and record that at the same time.
The second day it cleared up and there was so much fresh snow and it was perfect.
Here are some bonus photos of the amazing food we got at this pizza place called Centro in Cedar City, UT.
Jackson Hole
We went to Jackson, WY in the fall of 2023, but this was our first time skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. We went the last weekend in March and it had been pretty warm, so the snow was a bit icy and slushy but still fun. In fresh snow, this resort would be AMAZING. We made the best of the spring conditions and did some great wildlife watching around the Tetons.
Spring was trying to start at the top of the mountain.
We were sweltering in our ski gear.
We saw two moose on the chair lift and got a peanut butter bacon waffle at the top of the mountain.
We love the fake Tito the racoon and family in the hotel decor. They also had fake bears hanging from some of the window sills.
The shower was the nicest part of the room.
Since this was right before our anniversary, we treated ourselves to some fancy chocolates. Worth it.
It’s chocolate AND art.
Elk, elk, and more elk.
Morning wildlife watching at dawn in Jackson, WY is probably in my top 5 list of things to do in life.
We saw probably a dozen moose too.
10/10 would recommend eating butternut squash pizza in your car in front of the Tetons at sunset.
Alta
Alta is one of the most magical places in all of Pootah.

Ian casually almost accidentally dragging us down the mountain to take this photo.
If you made it this far, congratulations! Here’s some exciting bonus content - ski videos!
Please enjoy me skiing like a turtle and Ian skiing like a champ.
Thank you for reading. Love and miss you all. See you Maryland folks at the end of May!
