What an Exciting Time
The title of this post is not sarcasm, I really have been doing a fair bit of exciting things. Oh my goodness has it been busy since my last post. I promise I’m going to get my s**t together and try to do this more consistently. Now that I’m working full time, I don’t have as much time or mental energy to craft these posts. However, I do have an abundance of photos!
Here’s what you missed since the last post in roughly accurate chronological order.
Things are going well enough at the horse place. Everyone is nice, but it’s been kind of a hot mess getting the materials and technology that I need to actually do my job. Their hearts are in the right place, but man oh man, what a mess. They also messed up my new hire paperwork so I haven’t gotten paid yet. Well, technically, I did net a whopping 68 cents in my first paycheck, so there’s that.
Last weekend Ian and I went on a cool hike on a ski resort in the last couple of weeks before winter activities start to take place there. We hiked past three lakes and then to the top of Sunset Peak for a total of 7 miles. Fall is in full swing here, however fleetingly, so we have been trying to take full advantage of all of the amazing colors.
This past week we had a lovely visit from Don & Suzie (friends from church for those of you who don’t have the pleasure of knowing them). We had a house tour and breakfast. It was so great to see them!
One good thing about my job is that I get to leave work at 2:00 on Fridays as long as I get my hours in earlier in the week. I was not going to pass up an opportunity to extend my weekend, so this is what I did. Friday afternoon after work I did a 6 mile solo hike in Provo right down the road from the BYU campus. The fall colors were great! No stellar mountaintop views, as the summit of this hike spit you out in a campground, but I did meet a woman at the top who had apparently been using me as a marker to know if she was going in the right direction or not. Little did she know I was not a local and had never been there before.
We ended up walking the whole way back down to the parking lot together. We did not exchange names, but I did enjoy my time not getting murdered in the woods with the recently divorced dental hygienist.
Today (Saturday) Ian and I went on another hike in a place called Little Cottonwood Canyon (not to be confused with Big Cottonwood Canyon down the road which is where we were last weekend). Both Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons are two-lane roads that lead to various ski resorts, which you can hike in during the warmer months. Both also have beautiful fall foliage.
My legs and feet were not very happy with me doing another 7 mile hike two days in a row, but too bad so sad, I made them do it anyway. Then Ian and I got cheeseburgers and went to the biggest and best Trader Joe’s I’ve ever seen. It’s been a great day.
Can you spot the snow in one of these photos?
Last but not least is that Ian and I are very excited to be officially unofficial pen pals with Katie’s fourth grade class. She was using our road trip route to teach her class about geography and the cardinal directions. Her kids wrote us all really cute and sweet notes wishing us luck and asking for photos of our adventures. This letter is a personal favorite :)
Sorry that was so long, and kudos to you if you made it this far in the post. We love and miss you all!
