Long Overdue Post
So I definitely dropped the ball and went way too long about posting. We’ve been busy moving and unpacking and figuring things out. Here are some highlights from the past week or so.
Last weekend we had a lovely visit from the Lindbergs from church (minus Brenna, who was missed). It was great to see familiar faces! We took our first trip downtown to visit the Mormon temple, or at least the visitor center portion, and the state capitol building. Both had really neat architecture and history.
This past week we’ve been setting up our townhouse. Our moving pod was delivered on Thursday, so we’ve been busy unloading it and unpacking everything. Ian had to do a few repairs on some table legs that came loose during the journey, but other than that the only item that was completely broken was a lampshade. All of our other furniture survived the trip, which was a relief.
House photos to follow once we clean up all of the empty boxes and bins sitting around here.
Tomorrow (Monday) I officially start working at the horse place. It seems like I’ll be walking into a giant mess just like Ian did with his new job, so it’s a little bittersweet. I’ll miss the freedom of being able to do whatever I want everyday, but I’m also excited to be working again because I need some $$$.
Let’s see, what else is new? Yesterday we went to the town’s multicultural festival, which was a bunch of white people selling their arts and crafts out of different tents and tables in the park. Needless to say, underwhelming. Going from living and working in such diverse areas like Columbia, Silver Spring, and DC, it feels like some sort of reverse culture shock to now be in such a homogenous area. I don’t like it. Don’t get me wrong, we live in a very nice neighborhood, objectively, but it really would benefit from some racial and ethnic diversity.
Today’s weather forecast is “blowing dust”, which is pretty accurate. We realized after having our windows open all day that everything was covered in a light layer of dust. Oops.
I officially have my Utah license plates, which is weird. I know how to drive a handful of places by memory now, including the local park, Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, a few restaurants, and the grocery store.
Sports are on at weird times here. Baseball starts at 5:00 instead of 7:00. Football starts at 11:00 AM instead of 1:00. It’s bizarre, but we’re getting used to it. It’s definitely nice to be able to watch the primetime games because they start at 6:00 instead of 8:00.
Once we finish moving in we’ll do more fun and adventurous things and post about that. Until now, we’re just out here trying to get ourselves together. Love and miss you all!

PS: Remember our neighborhood zebra? Apparently home has its own local zebras too!
